Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.

The 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 43 starting combinations as they began their qualifying campaign. From these combinations, 22 made it through to the jump off and an impressive 16 went on to achieve an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places.

Norman rode two accurate rounds to get his double clear and he achieved the second clear in a time of 24.90 seconds to seal the win.
