Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Field House Equestrian Centre

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds continued during a busy day at Field House Equestrian Centre in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire on Sunday 14th October 2012. The Equestrian Centre played host to two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at heights of 0.90cm and 1.10m.
Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which takes place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.
Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round.
This 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round attracted a field of 43 starting combinations and from these combinations, 22 made it through to the jump off. With only 12 qualifying places up for grabs, all of the remaining combinations were hoping to achieve a double clear against the clock.
The overall winner was 36-year-old Ellen Layton from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire and she rode a superb double clear to secure the win on board her own Sober Lad, a 14-year-old black gelding. Ellen rode two accurate rounds to get her double clear and she achieved the second clear in a fast time of 29.25 seconds to seal the win.
Taking second place was 18-year-old Amy Dobson from Cheshire and she was on board It’s Time, a seven-year-old chestnut mare owned by Harriet Berris Ford. The combination achieved their second clear in a time of 29.42 seconds to ensure that they finished ahead of the combination in third.
Finishing in third place was 16-year-old Katherine Raw-Rees from Shropshire and she rode Peggy’s Rumour, an 11-year-old bay mare owned by Sally Raw-Rees. This combination produced their second clear in a time of 29.96 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round.
This 1.10m National Amateur Second Round attracted 21 starting combinations. From these eligible combinations, 12 made it through into the jump off and they were all hoping to achieve a double clear against the clock.
The win in this second round was taken by 31-year-old Danielle Perez from Great Altcar, Lancashire. Danielle rode Novex, a 17-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Natalie Pym and the combination rode a superb double clear in a time of 31.08 seconds. This time ensured that victory was theirs by over a second.
In second place was Campbell Thompson from Tarporley, Cheshire on board his own 12-year-old chestnut gelding, Croft Getto Kid. The combination cleared the eight fence jump off course in 32.59 seconds to secure a top two finish.
In third place was 60-year-old John Williams from Shrewley, Warwick and he achieved his Championship Final place riding Willibrord, a nine-year-old brown gelding owned by Caroline Webley. The combination rode a fast and accurate double clear to secure third place in just 34.27 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final.
