Dodson & Horrell 85cm and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds at Maelor Equestrian Centre

Monday 24 September 2018

Another weekend of the Dodson & Horrell Second Round series of qualifiers took place last weekend with riders securing their places in this year’s Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on 13 – 18 November at Maelor Equestrian Centre in Wrexham, North Wales.

Dodson & Horrell 85cm National Amateur Second Round

Alice Warden from Tamworth, Staffordshire outpaced all her rivals to triumph in the Dodson & Horrell 85cm National Amateur Second Round on Donaldo.

The nineteen starters were reduced to twelve for a hotly-contended jump-off, and it was all about the clock as eight provided double clears.  But Alice was quickest of them all, racing ahead to win by 0.76 second on her own Donaldo, a 14-year-old gelding she has competed for the past three and a half years.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round

Chloe Scott from Winsford, Cheshire secured victory in the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round with Reedside Francesca.

Only three of the 10 starters posted a first round clear over course-designer Paul Wellstead’s 10 fence track to access the jump-off but an on-form Chloe had the win sewn up.

Utilising all the shortcut options on offer, Chloe commandingly claimed the win by 4.48 seconds on her own Reedside Francesca, a Polling sired 10-year-old mare.  They also qualified for the Dodson & Horrell 95cm final after winning at South View two weeks earlier.
