Charlotte Sheppard commands the win in the Equissage British Novice Second Round at Dorset Showground

At the penultimate Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round competition for 2024, riders headed to Dorset Showground to secure their place at the British Showjumping National Championships.

Sixteen combinations took on the three-round track, with five riders jumping the double clear needed to advance to the jump-off, three of these finishing the qualifier on a clean sheet.

Charlotte Sheppard, riding her own seven-year-old mare Coevers Era, kept the competition at bay as the fastest of three triple clears, finishing an impressive 4.99 seconds faster than second placed Lauren Betteridge and Fernando H. Martha Erin Stickland piloted Brownheath Zambuca to the only other treble clear, finishing third.

“I’m really proud of her,” commented Charlotte. “I got her when she was four, rising five, and I’m the only person who has ridden her since. This was my second time trying to qualify this year and she was really brave, and it helps that she is quite speedy.

“I’m really looking forward to going back to the National Championships. We went last year but she pulled a shoe off just before the first fence so it wasn’t our best round but hopefully we will do better this year.”

The Senior British Novice Championship is generously sponsored by Equissage Pulse, long term supporters of British Showjumping. Equissage have been raising the bar in Equine Therapy for over 50 years, becoming a household name in their field. Their products, all manufactured in the UK, are used and trusted by individuals and NHS spinal injury units across the country, including both top professionals and everyday riders to help their horses perform at their best.
