Catherine Housman commands victory in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Speetley Equestrian Centre

Catherine Housman piloted DoubleM Orla into an impressive win in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Speetley Equestrian Centre, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The 48 starters had to negotiate a 1m course with 30 achieving initial clears and an eventual 18 competitors reaching the third round against the clock.  Catherine, now based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, after making the move from Hampshire, owned all the shortcuts to deliver a super-quick clear and win by more than three seconds.

Catherine first rode the S Creevagh Ferro Ex Siebe seven-year-old mare, owned by her boss Julian Mincher and Suzanne Fowler, for a month a year ago and picked up the ride again in April.

“She had a holiday while we moved and since she came back to work in February she’s been a proper little winner, I’m enjoying riding her, she’ll make someone a lovely little horse,” said Catherine.

The jump-off suited the pair of them.

“She’s careful and naturally quick across the floor so I kept her smooth and moving on,” added Catherine.  “The jump-off course suited me too, there weren’t too many distances, and I could take my own line – I guess on strides, I can’t count strides and ride at the same time; I count the numbers on the fences, not strides!”

Lauren Appleyard slipped Massada V&V into second and Thomas Pritchard finished third with Milky Way GS.
