British Showjumping Stallion & Mare Show Round-Up

The British Showjumping Stallion & Mare Show held at Towerlands Park, Braintree on Thursday 15th October saw some very promising and impressive young horses coming forward to contest the five classes available.

With age classes quickly becoming the core focus for those producing young horses through the competition structure, the Stallion & Mare Show most certainly proved a case in point. Bringing their up and coming horses to contest the four and five year old classes available were not only some of the country’s most talented riders but also a wealth of riders known for identifying and nurturing equine talent.

The 4-year Old class saw four share first place having jumped double clear and it was Hertfordshire based Philip Miller who dominated here by securing three of them. Having jumped a foot perfect clear with Diana Cornish and Neil Fiddes' stallion Avion by Numero Uno, he shortly followed this performance riding another one of their horses Anouk B, a mare by Taloubet K. Not content with this, Philip went on to take Myraco, a stallion by Darco owned by Mr Mitchell through to join them with Jane Annett’s mare Shenandoahh Go Go Gin by Shannonale Sarco St Ghyvan making up the fourth.

The 5-year Olds saw Portia Howard take first place with Mrs Claxton’s mare Zafira-Utopia by Indoctro with Laura Renwick riding Mr Perry’s Bellagio II, a stallion by Contender, taking second. With another win by Philip Miller on Diana and Pennie Cornish’s stallion Zilverstar M by Chin Chin taking third place.

The Grade C saw some great competition and an exciting jump off, and it was Laura Renwick riding Julia Biddle’s mare Parvati de Breve by Quidam de Revel that saw off some hot competition from Jenny Cassan riding Mrs Mann’s mare Redora by Kalusha. In third place, was Sussex based Charlotte Platt with Velien, a mare by Kigali and owned by Simon Davies followed by Lara Abraham with her own mare Corlanda van de Romstee by Orlando taking fourth.

Never happy with just one win under her belt, it was Laura Renwick who took the top spot in the 1.30m Open with Mrs Keaveney’s mare Beluga II by Heartbreaker.  Philip Miller, with Diana and Pennie Cornish’s in-form stallion Univeau took second place with Mark Armstrong riding his wife Emma’s mare Lavaletta II taking third followed by Young Rider, Daniel Neilson with Mr Butt’s mare High Tone Z by High Valley Z.

The 1.40m saw no change in terms of the competitor securing first place as it was Laura Renwick with Beluga who again saw off all competition, with her own mare Limelight de Breve coming a close second. Tony Pearson with Julia Biddles Burggraaf mare Twister X took third followed by Patrick Nesbitt with his own stallion Milton des Cresles by Flipper d’Elle.

The winner of the British Bred Mare Service Award went to the Old Lodge Stud’s mare Sorraya ridden by Steven Franks and by Drosselklang II. A win which Old Lodge can add to the three secured earlier this month at Horse of The Year Show, with two of their horses in the 7 & 8 Year Old Championships, the Horse & Hound Foxhunter in addition to the Grade C Championship.
