Angie Thompson takes the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Pembrokeshire County Show

Angie Thompson maximised on her final draw to claim victory in the final British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier of the season at the Pembrokeshire County Show with Fremont VDL, securing a place in the Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.

A quality field of thirty-five contended course-designer Peter Gillespie’s 12-fence track with fifteen providing first round clears to go forward to the deciding round against the clock. But it was a close, tight and nail-biting jump-off with just 0.42 seconds separating the first three.

Nonetheless, Angie, who is based in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, and Eleri Perry’s Bacardi VDL eight-year-old Fremont VDL were on form. Crowned National Grade C Champions just a few days earlier at the British Showjumping National Championships, the pair forged ahead to take the top spot by 0.34 seconds.

“It was a very quick jump-off but I made up the time early on between the first three fences, I got a forward rhythm and kept moving,” said Angie.

The top three qualify for the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Championship and Angie is joined by Helen Tredwell on Galtur and Alex Bishop’s Thomascourt Atlantis.
