ALEXANDER HORSEBOXES BRITISH SHOWJUMPING SCOPE FESTIVAL - MONDAY
Tuesday 27 August 2013
Thrills and spills, top-class jumping, tears of joy and triumphant laps of honour. It could only be the start of 2013’s national showjumping championships at the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival, Stafford County Showground.
Tracy Priest headed an ultra-competitive Equestrianclearance.com Newcomers Masters with the British-bred Market Irminka. This seven-year-old daughter of Irco Mena was bred by Derek Ricketts and bought by Tracy as a four-year-old. “She’s always had the jump, as soon as I tried over a cross pole I knew I was buying her” said Tracy.
Taking the last chance HOYS qualifiers were Nicole Pavitt on the seven-year-old Ultimate Z, Emma Stoker with Bob Young’s Lord Z six-year-old Townhead Latika R, Dale Burnham’s Romanov sired Romanella Gold and Angelie von Essen on the ultra-scopey One Man.
Emma-Jo Slater’s devastatingly quick round in a 30 horse jump-off lifted the first championship of the week, the Tri-Zone Airlite discovery on Kim Barzilay’s Lizziemary. “It’s thanks to my Tri-Zone boots!” said Emma-Jo. Lizziemary is another British-bred. The daughter of Cabri D’Elle and Amanda Lear, both former International showjumpers, was bred by Mike Dawson in Yorkshire.
Evie Dyer scored her biggest win on her Scope debut with the Marnic Groundworks Restricted Pony Championship on WSH Ryehill Dixie. “This show is amazing with a great atmosphere and fantastic arena” said Evie, 14, who only registered with British Showjumping at Christmas. The 17-year-old mare Dixie was bought five months ago. “She’s forward-going and a confidence giver, she’s taught me lots already.”
Toni Evans, 16, took the Netley Hall Pony Discovery Championship with the eight-year-old Smithy’s Conquest. “He didn’t have any steering when I got him two years ago” said Toni, “He’s sensitive, but he trusts me, we have a partnership.”
Rory Aird finally realised an ambition – a lap of honour at the Festival of Showjumping. “I’ve been second and third here countless times” he said after winning the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters on Unorthodox Blue. The 14-year-old was bought in May from Millie Allen. “We clicked straightaway he makes me smile when I ride him, he’s got charm” said Rory.
Millie took her own championship when reunited with her 2010 European team gold and individual silver winning ride Trueleva to take the Children-on-Horses Championship for £500 and a brand new Animo jacket. “She’s been off since May to try embryo transfer but it didn’t work this year” said Millie, at her first show with this feisty 13-year-old mare, “although last year was successful, she’s got a foal by Don VHP Z.”
