Aimee Paxton returned triumphant in the NAF Five Star Summer Bronze League Qualifier at Muirmill Equestrian Centre

Aimee Paxton borrowed her mother Caroline Timmins’ horse Earnest to claim a commanding victory in the NAF Five Star Summer Bronze League Qualifier at Muirmill Equestrian Centre.

All Aimee wants to do is ride, jump and go to shows at every opportunity,” said Caroline.  “She’s always happy to jump on one of the horses after riding her ponies and she’s made friends with ‘Enzo’.”

Thirty-three competitors tackled course-designer Shaun Sands’ 11-fence 1.05m track with 17 providing initial clears to go forward to round two with only seven making it through to the final jump-off.  Aimee found the quickest route on the British-bred Hemmingway x Mangan 14-year-old Earnest to win with 3.66 seconds to spare.

“Aimee has taken him to shows two weekends on the trot and, as they hadn’t got enough points in the league as they don’t compete often, she had a go at the qualifier, won the warm-up and then the main class,” said Caroline, who bought the former eventer Enzo four years ago.  “He wasn’t keen on the dressage side and was originally my horse but now I have zero chance of competing him – and my kids are much better than me, anyway!

“Aimee and Enzo are well suited; they both love a jump-off.  Enzo has got an interesting personality but Aimee has tapped into it.  Every time I look out of the kitchen window, the fences were in new lines.  I said they don’t need to practise a jump-off anymore. Aimee replied, ‘But he’s so much fun and so cool!’”

Aimee, 15, of Kirknewton in Midlothian, Scotland, has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show with her 148cm pony Las Vegas VI.  The pair will contend the Leading Pony Showjumper of the Year Final.

Natalie Devlin guided Paloma V/D Padenborre into second place and Alana McCulloch steered Kendela into third.
