A Daisy duo take the title in the Pony Bronze League 138cm & Under Final

With 14 riders going all out in the jump off, the Pony Bronze League 138cm & Under Final was a thriller of a class at the British Showjumping National Championships 2018. The difficult line composed of a double of verticals and oxer dashed many Championship dreams, with only four combinations managing to go double clear. Daisy Lewis and Grallagh Daisy were the penultimate pair to go and clocked a time of 31.16 seconds, 0.75 seconds faster than current leader Sarah Proudley riding Real Cool Dude, forcing them to settle for second place.

The skewbald mare has been taking Daisy from success to success in the past year and the Bronze League has been their fourth participation in the Championships here this week, despite it being Daisy’s first time at BSNC! “We’re both called Daisy, but oddly her stable name is Tulip and we’re both 12 years old so we are the perfect match,” laughed Daisy. “We’ve had her for 15 months now but during that time, Tulip has qualified for four classes here; the Pony Discovery, the Stepping Stones 138cm Final, the Pony British Novice and this class!”

Being a member of the Pony Club, Daisy was also awarded the sash for best placed Pony Club member, making it a brilliant finish for the young rider who is based in Kent. “She’s a lot of fun and I can do a bit of everything with her. Sometimes showjumping ponies are too hot and have to stick to jumping, but I can take Tulip hacking and do lots of fun things with her. Everyone says she is lovely and not your typical mare at all,” beamed Daisy. “I got eight faults in the Pony Discovery but I’ve never jumped that high before with her so I was very happy!”

Daisy’s next objective is the Mini Majors at Olympia and no doubt this pair will have many more successes in the future.

The Bronze and Silver Pony/Rider Combination League was introduced by British Showjumping in 2014 and allows all pony riders to be able to track their progress on a regional and national league table. There are three leagues; Bronze, Silver and Gold and they are split into three height categories of 128cm, 138cm and 148cm.

It is not only competitors who are guaranteed a fabulous day out, the British Showjumping National Championships also offers a great family day of exciting competition, hospitality and afternoon tea offerings and a retail shopping village. Entry for spectators wishing to take advantage of this fantastic show is free and parking is only £5 per car.
