Chris Smith Speeds to Victory in Thrilling Sytner Land Rover HOYS International Wild Card Qualifier

The action was fast and furious in the Sytner Land Rover Coventry Horse of the Year Show International Wild Card Qualifier, incorporating The National Speed Horse Final, at the British Showjumping National Championships – and what a sensational class it proved to be.
With a HOYS Wild Card spot looming on the horizon, the stakes were high and the competition fierce, but it was Chris Smith who came out on top with his impressive ride, MESSARADO BLUE. The pair delivered a lightning-fast round that not only wowed the crowd but also secured victory with a two-second lead.
Finishing in second was seasoned campaigner Guy Williams riding ERNIE OF GREENHILL Z, a rider known for his speed and precision – making Chris’s win all the more impressive. Rebecca Marsh rounded off the top three in fine style aboard STEVIE G, completing a thrilling line-up of top-class performances.
Speaking after his win, a delighted Chris said:
“Every win is good, whether it’s a small class or a big class, especially when you’ve had them from the beginning – it’s nice that you’ve got them to that level.”
He also admitted just how much it meant to take the win against such strong opposition:
“It’s always good to beat Guy – he takes a bit of beating!”
With his sights now set on the HOYS Wild Card up for grabs tomorrow (Friday), Chris and MESSARADO BLUE look to be in fantastic form and will be ones to watch in the next round of action.
The class itself was a brilliant showcase of speed, skill and bravery – a true highlight of the National Championships that had spectators gripped from start to finish. Congratulations to all the riders who delivered such a high standard of sport and entertainment.
