British Showjumping National Championships 2025 - Day 3
Thursday 07 August 2025
Double wins for Emma Sargeant, back to back wins for reigning National Champion Rebecca Marsh, a repeat triumph for the Surrey Team, and a fourth consecutive win for Para rider Sarah Steel.
Following Emma Jo Slater’s impressive four wins over the first two days, Emma Sargeant kept the momentum going, claiming the first two championship titles of the day.
She secured the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Masters Champion title in a competitive 16-strong jump-off, on 8-year-old Joe Malon, edging out Pippa Goddard by just 0.13 seconds.
Already qualified for HOYS, Emma shared her approach: "Sometimes I'm a little bit cautious about inside turns, but I just thought, there's nothing to lose, may as well have a good go."
Emma then returned to the Sytner Land Rover Coventry Championship Arena, winning the National 1.25m Restricted Rider Championship Final aboard Whisper’s Love, owned by longtime supporter Pat Morris.
Emma said: "To win again is unbelievable! I’ve ridden her since a 4-year-old, she’s a proper little speed demon, she doesn’t give the fences much, but she’s a proper trier, likes to be careful and she’s so quick across the ground."
Rebecca Marsh and Stevie G delivered once again, producing the only double clear in the HOYS International Wild Card Qualifier Incorporating The British Showjumping Business Partnership International Stairway Final, retaining her National Champion title for a second year..
Rebecca commented: “It’s great qualifying for HOYS, it’s one of those shows you always want to go as a child, so to do it last year and have that experience in there to then do it back to back this year – you know it means a lot, and I can’t wait to go back.” She added: “Stevie G is just an amazing horse, and he gives 100% every single time.”
Other HOYS Wild Card tickets were awarded to:
- Mark Edwards – Stairway League Winner
- Guy Williams – HOYS Wildcard League
- Emma Crawford – 25 and Under HOYS Wildcard League
It will come as no surprise that Mark Edwards claimed the National 1.30m Open Champion title riding Tinkers Touch, the fastest of seven double clears, narrowly beating last year’s winner Faye Adams.
Mark said: "A nervy horse on the ground, but such a trier in the ring and he is going to be a real winner in the future."
“It was a real fast class, as you always expect with this one, there was a good standard to beat, so I knew what to do and Tinkers Touch, he was just on form – gone in a good rhythm all the way and he was really on his game today.”
In the Grass Arena, six area teams competed in the National Team Jumping Championship, with Surrey claiming the victory for the second year running – the only team to finish on a score of 0.
Congratulations to team members: Abigail Groves on Elegan Dollards, Georgia Darlington on Jara II, Megan Jeffery on Baloubet Diamond Spring, Holly Nye on Nice
Team manager Abigail Groves said: "Absolutely thrilled to win this year riding in the team, I've been the team manager since 2018 and Surrey has won the team finals in 2019, 2022, 2024 and now for the fourth time in 2025."
The National Para Equestrian Championship closed the day in the Grass Arena, with inspiring performances across all grades:
Grade III: Evie Toombes on If Evers Boy
“It’s brilliant to come to one of the main shows, have everyone here, the para team are such a great team of people as well, the vibes are really good, but really special to win on him.”
Grade II: Anna Hilton on Corae All Spice
“Good girl, she listens to me really well, looks after me, carry’s me around. So absolutely thrilled with our first year in para, it’s like a dream come true.”
Grade I: Sarah Steel on Topwood Teddy – claiming her fourth consecutive win
“He knows when I’m not well, he will go off my leg or also goes on voice commands if my legs aren’t working - he’s just awesome – he’s the reason I get up every morning.”
As another thrilling day of senior competition wraps up, we now look forward to welcoming the juniors for three more days of nail-biting action.
