Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round at Berkshire College of Agriculture

Berkshire College of Agriculture in, Maidenhead, Berkshire held a Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round on Sunday 12th October which proved to be popular with forty-one combinations coming forward to contest it.
Each of the starters were hoping to claim one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.
The jump off saw twenty-eight combinations compete again and with just the twelve qualification spots available, each competitor was focused on securing a double clear. Twenty double clears were eventually produced and with only twelve qualifying spots it means that the clock decided the line-up.
Monica Ballard, aged 28 from Sittingbourne, Kent was the eventual winner on board her own 16 year-old bay mare, My Amazing Grace. Drawn seventieth to go in the jump off , this combination produced a fast double clear in 24.26 seconds at time which proved to be unbeatable.
Second place went to 18 year-old Sam Holmes from Farnham, Surrey and he took his place in the top two on his own 14 year-old grey gelding Sea Breeze. Their double clear was secured in 25.10 seconds.
Abigail Cottingham, 15 from Reading, Berkshire took third place with her mother Amanda’s 9 year-old chestnut mare Molly Chestnut. Delivery of a double clear in 25.43 seconds ensured the combination of a top three placing, giving them a spot in the Championship Final.
A further nine combinations also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Championship Final.
