TV coverage goes from strength to strength for Olympia, The London International Horse Show
Saturday 18 December 2010

TV broadcast schedules for this year’s Olympia, The London International Horse Show (14-20 December) show the BBC and Eurosport continuing their strong support of one of the last remaining equestrian shows to attract TV rights.
Following last year’s successful decision by the BBC to broadcast Wednesday evening’s Dressage Freestyle, the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle to Music, supported by Horse & Hound, will once again be broadcast LIVE through the BBC’s Red Button service, as well as on British and International Eurosport.
After the Dressage on Wednesday, the BBC will broadcast LIVE the Alltech Christmas Puissance on Friday 17th December, also through its red button service. Highlights of the Alltech Christmas Puissance will then be shown on BBC1 on the afternoon of Saturday 18th December. On Sunday 19th, the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Show Jumping Qualifier presented by H&M will broadcast LIVE on BBC2. Then, on the evening of Monday 21st, the entire evening performance, including The Kingsland Olympia Grand Prix will be shown on the Red Button Service, LIVE.
International and British Eurosport also start their coverage with the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle to Music, supported by Horse & Hound on Wednesday 15th December. Both International and British Eurosport will then broadcast The Eros Equestrian Ltd Christmas Speed Stakes on Thursday evening (16th); the Christmas Tree Stakes and the Santa Stakes on Saturday evening (18th); The H&M Ivy Stakes on H&M Sunday (19th) and the Olympia Grand Prix on Monday evening (20th.) British Eurosport will also be broadcasting the Alltech Christmas Puissance on Friday 17th.
Event director Simon Brooks-Ward said: “We are delighted that the BBC and Eurosport still value top level show jumping and dressage at Olympia. For some years, Olympia has been the most watched horse event on BBC. However, the old adage that if we don’t use it, we will lose it applies here, so I would urge everyone who is involved in the horse world to keep tuning in to equestrian broadcasts. It is vital that we keep horse sport on terrestrial and satellite television and the way we do that is by winning the ratings battle.”
Exact details of how to access the coverage on the red button service will be available ahead of Olympia. Please check www.olympiahorseshow.com for more detail a week ahead of the show.
