Anya Dewey-Clarke joins exclusive HOYS club with victory in the 138cm Championship
Day four at Horse of the Year Show began with a flurry of action as Britain's young pony-riding stars took centre-stage in the Andrews Bowen International Arena.
The 138cm Championship saw Lincolnshire's Anya Dewey-Clarke conclude a thrilling jump-off by going almost two seconds quicker than anyone else on Fredaine De Blonde.
And it meant that 11-year-old Anya joined an exclusive HOYS club of riders to win the 138cm and 128cm Championship, having triumphed in the 128cm competition last year.
Charlie Barker, riding Another Barney, finished second in a time of 27.16, and the podium places were completed by Annabel Widdowson aboard Unsphinx D Hurl Vent.
"It is just an amazing feeling," Anya said. "She's got a huge stride and galloped to the last, and I was just so happy when I looked up and saw the time. I have always wanted to win the 128 and 138 classes at HOYS.
"She is the queen of the yard at home. It is like she has got wings, and she covers the ground so well. She will turn back to anything - she is incredible."
The 128cm Championship was won by 12-year-old Irish rider Harvey Oscar Foley, who delivered an assured and accomplished performance aboard the black mare Bossinova.
Harvey, who is from Co Carlow, posted a jump-off time of 26.22 seconds to finish as clear winner from runner-up Alfie Bailey, riding Lam Bay Off Broad Way, while third place went to 2024 winner Annabel Widdowson on Bunbury Conquest.
"This is my first time at HOYS, and to win here means everything," he said. "I didn't really feel nervous, and it was great to be able to win and get the crowd going.
"My pony felt great. I had a bit of hope, and it has happened for us. It is just a special feeling to have won this class."
