KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Regional Final at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex

The KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Regional Final held on Sunday 3rd June 2012 at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex in Warwickshire attracted entries from over 100 eligible horse and rider combinations, all hoping to claim their Championship Final qualification. 
 
The class, held during the course of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, saw riders gather from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012). 
 
From the total number of entries, 90 combinations started in the Regional Final and 17 combinations managed to gain two clear rounds to make it through to the final jump off. In the final jump off, all the remaining combinations were hoping to produce the crucial treble clear required to qualify for the Championship Final. 
 
A notable 14 combinations went on to produce the required treble clear, securing their Final place for August. The overall winner of the Regional Final was Derek Morton from Stone, Staffordshire and he won the class aboard Skerne Leys Stud’s bay gelding, Skerne Scipio. Derek and Skerne Scipio were one of only two combinations to clear the jump off course in sub 31 seconds and Derek put in a time of only 30.49 seconds to clinch the win.  
 
Second place went to 21-year-old Emma Ashworth from Bicester in Oxfordshire. Emma brought Nicol Browne’s mare, Zambezi IV, home clear over the jump off course in a time of 30.76 seconds to clinch a qualifying spot for the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.
 
The combination in third place was 18-year-old Bryony Ward from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire and she rode Samantha Gibbins’ Hay Que Fabulosa clear over the seven fence jump off in a time of 32.20 seconds.
 
A further 11 riders also achieved their treble clear and they all did so in a time of under 42.00 seconds.

The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
