British Bred Horses At The Top Of Their Game

British bred horses have been on flying form recently with wins including 4 Olympic medals, 2 silver medallists at the European Pony Championships and a World Young Horse Champion.
The British Olympic Gold medal winning Jumping team included the 10 year old British bred stallion, Tripple X III (Namelus R x Cantus). Ridden and bred by Ben Maher, Tripple X III is owned jointly by Ben and the Quainton Stud.
Representing the Bronze medal winning Saudi Arabian team in the Jumping at Greenwich was Sultan, bred by the Old Lodge Stud in Sussex. Sultan (Irco Mena x Voltan) was ridden by Abdullah Waleed to help the Saudi Arabian team into Bronze medal position.
Two horses on the Silver medal winning British Olympic Eventing team are British bred. Miners Frolic ridden by Kristina Cook (Miners Lamp x Oats) owned by Mr and Mrs N Embiricos and Mrs S Pelham and Opposition Buzz ridden by Nicloa Wilson (Fleetwater Opposition x Java Tiger) and owned by Miss Rosemary Search. These two horses have amassed over 3,500 British Eventing points between them.
Brazil and Italy also had a British bred horse apiece on their Olympic Eventing teams. Eleda All Black (Kings Composer x Louella Monsun) represented the Brazilian team in the Olympic Eventing. Owned by Ms Bronwen Jones and Mr Ian Greer, Eleda All Black, ridden by Marcelo Tosi, helped the Brazilian team into 9th place at Greenwich.
British bred Borough Pennyz (Cevin Z x Symfonie) added just one Showjumping time fault to her dressage score at Greenwich to take 11th place individually. This grey mare owned by Sally Bullen and Vittoria Panizzon and ridden by Vittoria for the Italian team is a former British Eventing Young horse Champion.
BEF Futurity graduate, Woodlander Farouche (Furst Heinrich x Dimaggio), owned by Lynne Crowden and the Eilberg family won the 6 year old class at the FEI World Breeding Championships in Verden Germany last Month. Michael Eilberg partnered her to the highest mark ever awarded at the Championships of 9.88%.
Two British bred ponies won medals at the Pony European Championships held at Fontainbleau from the 17th to the 22nd July. British bred, Rock Dee Jay (Arko III x Dee Jays Rio Grande) took the individual Silver medal in the Showjumping with his Dutch rider Lisa Nooren. Rock Dee Jay was bred by Sharon Quigley. British-bred mare, Bandalera (Ski Dancer x Corston Comet) partnered by her owner and rider, Madeleine Taylor helped the British Eventing team take the Silver medal at the Pony European Championships.
Jan Rogershead of equine development at the British Equestrian Federation said “year on year the number of British bred horses competing and winning at International level is rising. The careful breeding programmes our breeders have spent many years setting up and perfecting are now demonstrating consistently improving results”.
