Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Rounds Get Started at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre
Monday 12 May 2014
This weekend saw the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Rounds get underway at the Pony Premier Show at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire. The second round took place on Saturday 10th May 2014 and it proved to be very popular with competitors. Ninety-seven combinations got their Championship Final qualifying campaign underway.
Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and all of the starters were vying for one of these tickets.
From all the starters, fourteen combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off and four combinations then went on to produce the all important treble clear.
Following a well fought jump off, the win was eventually taken by 15 year-old Chloe Reynolds from Chard, Somerset. Chloe achieved her treble clear on board the 9 year-old coloured mare Kayleigh’s Star, owned by Sophie Digby. Chloe produced a superb third round from the mare to take victory in 39.58 seconds.
Second place was taken by 15 year-old Alice Donnelly from Grantham, Lincolnshire and she delivered her treble clear on Roan Boy, a 12 year-old roan gelding owned by her mother Joanne. This combination achieved their third clear in a time of 43.12 seconds.
With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies who finished in third to fifth missed out on HOYS qualification this time around. However, they did take home the chance to compete at The Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
