Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at the Scottish Home Pony

The last of this year’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Rounds took place on Sunday 3rd August 2014 at Morris Equestrian Centre in Fenwick, Ayrshire. The second round was also a key part of the Scottish Home Pony and was the final second round of the series prior to the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters which will be held at the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and each of the forty-eight starting combinations was competing with the aim of taking one of these tickets home.

After two rounds of competition, the final jump off was well fought out by the nine combinations who made it through. Four combinations then went on to produce an all-important treble clear.

The fastest treble clear was achieved by 15 year-old Jessica Hewitt from Pontefract, West Yorkshire on Nikita XIII, an 8 year-old black mare owned by Rachael Williams. This combination gained their treble clear in a really quick time of 39.41 seconds to take the win by well over four seconds.

Abbie Taylor (16) from Daventry, Northamptonshire took second place on board her mother Vicky’s 8 year-old grey mare Helzi. They gained their treble clear in 43.95 seconds to secure the final qualifying place.

The first two pony and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Ponies and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
