Gloucestershire Academy Awards Night & Social Evening

Gloucestershire Area 41 Junior Academy Awards and Social evening
Held at The Royal William, Cranham.
Members gathered for the first Junior Academy Awards and Social evening, carvery and cake kindly sponsored by a friend of Angela and Jeremy Warner.
Area Rep Clare Farmer introduced the committee and said a few words about the area and the plans for the future. She also thanked Karen Griffiths for organising the event and presented her with a bouquet of flowers to say thank you. Also recognised for their hard work and commitment to the academy were Pip Griffiths and Millie Warner who were given gifts of thanks.
Pip Griffiths then gave a speech of thanks to the sponsors and gave us an insight in how she become involved in British Showjumping and the Junior Academy, this linked nicely to the awards for the evening, the compere for the evening was Joe Fernyhough.

Promising horse sponsored by Team Crow’s Nest
This has been awarded to a horse that we feel has a bright future and has represented Gloucestershire on many occasions, he and his rider have gone from novice to newcomers in a very short but successful space of time. This goes to Calcourt Dorado aka ‘Big Ern’.

Most committed, sponsored by Leech Racing
This is awarded to a member who has been a huge part of the academy. This person has shown great enthusiasm in everything they do, whether it be pole picking, course walking with the younger members, handing out numnahs and timesheets, designing posters for events and interviewing committee members on video whilst still competing successfully for Gloucestershire. This person is always happy to participate, help others and always smiles..  This well-deserved award goes to Pip Griffiths.

Best newcomer sponsored by The Atkins family
This member is one to look out for! She is fast, fierce, extremely competitive and is a great asset to the academy. She has taken the ride of her sisters two ponies which are also as fierce as she is. The combinations are a force to be reckoned with. This member is always, always smiling and never fails to make you laugh. The best newcomer is Sophia Bevan

Shining Star shield, sponsored by Neil Turner
This award represents someone the academy recognises to be a future star, we are very lucky that this member has represented Gloucestershire for many years both on ponies and now horses. A fairly new ride saw her take victory at Cherwell academy show. We look forward to watching her continued success. Shining star is awarded to Jasmin Leay-Parkinson.

Veteran pony sponsored by Cotswold Equestrian
We are very lucky at Gloucestershire academy to have lots of veteran ponies still competing successfully on the show circuit, but this pony has competed for several years representing Gloucestershire and after having an injury and being 22 she still gives the young ones a run for their money, this goes to Arabella.

Committed parent award
As an academy we are very fortunate to have the help of some amazing parents without their commitment we would not be able to achieve many of the results. This dad goes above and beyond to help everybody, whether that be putting jumps up, holding ponies even if they do try to give him a friendly nibble on most occasions! fixing lorries and his amazing BBQ skills. Gloucestershire’s most committed parent is Jeremy Warner.

Best turned out award, sponsored by Clare Farmer
There is always a strong rivalry between not only the different academies but our own members when it comes to turnout. This person plays a huge role in making sure her pony stands out from the rest. She has her sparkle spray in one hand and her straighteners in the other, not a single hair is out of place. She is like the Coco Chanel of horse wear and her pony always has the latest numnahs and boots no matter what the cost. The best turned out award goes to Kelly Goodwin and Maverick.

Team of the year
This team had a range of horses and ages but together they were unbeatable. Beating academies from all over the country. The winning horse team at Cherwell consisting of Sophie Wallace and countess, Amelia warner and Calcourt Dorado, Jasmine Leay-Parkison and Imagine Blue, Millie Guy and Alcodota are this year’s team of the year.
