Nicole Pavitt Lands the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Qualifier at Wales and West Showground

The second of seven Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Incorporating the Seven-Year-Old Championship Qualifiers unfolded at Wales and West this Saturday as 79 riders took to the arena for the qualifier.

The first round track proved challenging to finish clear and within the time. However, 16 combinations proved it could be done, jumping clear to advance to the jump off.

Nicole Pavitt and Amber Bundock’s Casque D’or, having finished second place in this class in 2024, flew around the course in a time of 37.87 seconds to go one better this year, doing enough to secure top spot: “I am so pleased with him, especially as he won the 1.40m Grand Prix the day before so it was definitely a weekend to remember," said Nicole.

“He’s quite a straightforward ride, once you get into a rhythm you don’t have to touch him. He’s such a happy guy and loves his job,” she added.

Second place went to Angela Thompson and Rachael Crocker’s Ca Va Fazallco who were hot on the winner’s heels, but a time of 38.28 seconds meant they had to settle for second place. William Rekert and Thomas William’s Fifty Shades of Grey, who were fresh from a second place result in the LeMieux National 1.40m class at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, slotted into third place, 3.76 seconds in arrears.

The top seven-year-old, and picking up the fourth ticket to the Horse of the Year Show, went the way of Torryn Hubbard riding her own Catania Du Montois, the pair finishing in fifth place.

Talking about her winning round, Nicole said: “I was last to go, but I had been early on my other ride although we had a pole, so I had a chance to see what was what around the course. I was able to watch Angela [Thompson] go as well so I knew what I had to do to get the win, and he nailed it”
