Leo Lamb Flies to Victory in the Redpost Equestrian Foxhunter Second Round at Wales and West Showground

In the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round at Wales and West Showground this weekend, it was Leo Lamb who rode away with the victory and a ticket to the Horse of the Year Show.

A 62-strong starting field came forward to contend the 1.30m track with 13 advancing to the second round. Navigating his way flawlessly through the first two rounds, Leo faced four other combinations in the jump-off. Jumping from last to go, and with no other treble clears so far, Leo and RRH Out Of The Blue, knew what they needed to do and executed the only treble clear of the class to secure top spot.

Leo had only sat on the eight-year-old gelding, who was bought by Leo’s mum, Carron, a year ago, once before the Wales and West Show: “He felt absolutely incredible. I owe my mum a huge thanks for trusting me with the ride on her best horse while she headed to Windsor for the day. Anna Strawson produced him and then mum bought him from her sister, Sanda Nicol, and she has done an amazing job producing him out in Spain. He feels in top form for the rest of the season.”

Talking about the gelding, known as Blue at home, Leo said: “I gave him a jump the day before and he felt great. He found the first round very easy, but he is so brave and got better and better as the rounds went on. He’s not the easiest to ride and can be quite awkward but when he gets to a jump, he does what he needs to do to get over it clear. He’s got such a big heart and is a real trier.”

“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to step in and get the job done. Now we just have to fight over who gets to take him to HOYS!” joked Leo.

In the Senior Newcomers Second Round, Jake Elliott rode his way to top spot with Carl Curtis’ seven-year-old Noble Orange, a ride Jake took on only a few months ago. Second place went the way of Anna Power and her own, Bina Ford and Sue Edwards’ Calgary PH Z, 2.40 seconds off the winning pace. Jame Ingham and his own Vandro B filled third place, a further 2.92 seconds in arrears.
