Joshua Carnochan is Victorious in the STX UK Pony British Novice Second Round at Muirmill Equestrian

Muirmill Equestrian Centre hosted this weekend’s STX UK Pony British Novice Second Round as riders continued to showcase their talent and secure their place in the final, held at the British Showjumping National Championships.

Eleven combinations came forward to tackle Lee Roebuck’s flowing 85cm course, with six jumping clear to advance to the final round. Four of those jumped a further clear which meant placings would be determined by the clock.

Racing around the shortened course, Joshua Carnochan steered Chloe Carnochan’s six-year-old mare, Cooleclevan Dun, to victory and outpaced his rivals by 1.79 seconds.

Lexie Wilkie slotted into second place with Jock Wilkie’s She’ll Be Fine whilst Britney Clarke picked up third, just 0.12 seconds futher off the pace, with Lindsay Clarke’s Coppenagh Onyx.

“I went in wanting to jump the first two rounds steady to make sure we got to the jump-off. And then in the jump-off, I waited to see if we jumped the first few clear and before we went for it and she was so good,” said Joshua. “Goldie is a very nice pony and loves the attention, so I was confident that if we got to the final round that we could do well. I’m really looking forward to going to the finals in August,” he added.

“She’s a very green mare, she’s only just turned six and doesn’t really have much experience with jump-offs. This is their first attempt at a second round class, she has only been jumping British Showjumping classes for less than a year,” added Joshua’s mum, Chloe.

“She and Joshua have a great bond; he’s done amazing things with her. I was just hoping they would finish in the top 10 but to win it, as the only 138cm in the class and as one of the youngest riders, I was so proud of them.

“She’s a very cool pony and not a lot phases her. We’ll take her to the Welsh Home Pony and hopefully that will give her a good ground of a bigger show as it will be one of the biggest shows she will have been to before we head to Nationals.”
