Joe Trunkfield Wins From the Front in the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round at South View

The Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Championship Second Rounds continued this weekend at South View Equestrian Centre in a fiercely contested class where riders vied to qualify their horses for the Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.
Fifty combinations entered the arena for the first round, with just over half advancing the next round, and of these, 15 secured another clear round needed to progress to the final jump-off, Joe Trunkfield and Angel Tough claiming three of the places each. First to go in the jump-off, it was Joe who led the charge and set off at a gallop with Srikumar Balasubramaniyam’s Corvette VH Reukenis Z. The pair left nothing to chance and rode deceivingly tight lines to cross the finish in a time of 41.57 seconds.
It was a long wait for Joe who had to sit and wait to see if anyone could catch their time, including himself on his other two rides, but the efforts of the eight-year-old gelding proved to be unbeatable.
Reflecting on his victory, Joe remarked: “I couldn’t be happier with his progress and am so excited for his future. I owe a great thanks to his owners for trusting me with him!”
Their winning time was an impressive 2.97 seconds faster than second place which went the way Angel Tough, riding Old Selui De Semily, who also picked up third place with Nicole IV, both mounts owned by Emerson Tough.
This won’t be Joe’s first time contesting the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Final, as he had career best finish in 2021, landing second place with John Steels’ Idwerd.
The Senior Newcomers Second Round proved to be an extremely close fought contest as Lauren Roach took top spot with Kerry Grimster’s Louisiana-S, crossing the finish in a time of 35.50 seconds. Just 0.02 seconds behind her was Joe Trunkfield who picked up another top placing with Corvette VH Reukenis Z. Emily Ward slotted Nick Ward’s Wild One HF into third place, 1.54 seconds in arrears.
