Great Britain’s Team Audevard secure the Bronze medal in the FEI Jumping Veteran European Championships in Italy

Great Britain’s Team Audevard celebrated a podium place with Team Bronze in a tense competition at the Riviera Resort in San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy.
“I’m really proud of this team who fought hard in the extreme heat to claim Team Bronze,” said chef D’Equipe Mandy Frost.
Five teams started out over a speed course and scores counted from the off with James Askew on The Lieutenant and Eve Hare on Shadow IV jumping good and quick clear rounds in day one’s Table C speed to finish fifth and eighth respectively.
But it was tight, and Britain started in fourth place on day two as riders faced a testing 1.25m course – “It was a very technical and full up-to-height course,” added Mandy.
James returned on four faults with the 10-year-old The Lieutenant (Luidam x Lupicor) but Eve countered it with a clear aboard the Cormint 18-year-old Shadow. Karen Gray came home on eight faults with the 14-year-old Lexus Hof Ter Zeedycke (Winningmood x Toulon) while Antony Clarke kept Britain in the running with four faults aboard the 10-year-old Toronto. But the team had to dig deep to get a podium place as Italy dominated at the top.
James and Eve came up trumps with clear rounds to keep Britain in the hunt for a medal, but it didn’t go Karen’s way, and she again returned on eight faults. It all rested on Antony’s shoulders, and the pressure to supply a penalty-free round was immense.
“The pressure was on Anthony. He had to produce a clear in the second round if we were to get a medal. He did it with great style, giving us Team Bronze,” said Mandy. “It is always such a great honour to be part of these Championships, and I couldn’t be prouder of our team!”
The host country remained steadfast in Gold on a total of 8.74 penalty points with France taking Silver on 11.41. Great Britain’s Team Audevard claimed Bronze on 18.12 points, 0.56 points in front of Spain in fourth place.
The Individual Final will take place on Sunday 15 June at 10:00 local time (09:00 BST) with Eve Hare on Shadow and Corinne Beech aboard the Canturano 14-year-old Amigo leading the British campaign with clear rounds every day.
