Gemma Stevens and Johan Some triumph in the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Incorporating the 7 Year Old Championship Qualifier at Pyecombe Horse Show

The penultimate Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Incorporating the 7 Year Old Championship Qualifier of 2024 took place at Pyecombe Horse Show, offering riders a chance to qualify for the Final at the Horse of the Year Show.

A strong field of 59 competitors faced Course Designer Lisa Kelly’s first-round track, with 23 successfully advancing to the jump-off. In a highly competitive round, Gemma Stevens emerged victorious, finishing in 40.04 seconds. This marks the second Championship qualification for Gemma and Dr. Linda Allan’s Johan Some, who also secured a spot in the HOYS Grade C Championship Final, following success in the qualifier at the South of England Show Ground in June. Originally an eventer, the talented 10-year-old horse transitioned to showjumping, proving his prowess by finishing 1.13 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

The battle for second and third place was tightly contested. Simon Buckley, riding Johanna Buckley’s Millfield Hickson, narrowly edged out Emma Crawford on King Louie III by just 0.61 seconds.

The highest-placed 7-year-old, qualifying for the final, was William Fletcher on his own Secret Sunset.
