Alfie Diaper Tops the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at the Welsh Home Pony

Fifteen-year-old Alfie Diaper delivered a standout performance to claim victory in the final Blue Chip Newcomers Second Round at the Welsh Home Pony Show last weekend, held at the David Broome Event Centre.
The qualifying class saw 93 determined combinations come forward to take on Raf Suarez’s expertly designed course. From the original starters, 16 progressed to the first jump-off, with just 10 combinations making it through to the final round. Of those, four produced flawless treble clears – a true testament to the calibre of the field.
Alfie, riding Helen Diaper’s PJV Bella, proved unbeatable on the day. The pair secured the win with an impressive margin of 3.61 seconds, demonstrating composure beyond his years and exceptional partnership with his mare.
This victory earns Alfie another coveted spot at the Horse of the Year Show as he will also contend the Demolition Services Pony Showjumper of the Year Final and STX-UK Pony Foxhunter Championship Final.
Hollie Gerken riding Kerry Grimster’s Velini’s Silver Star claimed second place, crossing the finish in 38.89 seconds. Michael McColm and Gordon Roper’s Little Lady finished third in 38.91 seconds, just fractions behind. Emily Gulliver aboard Ben Gulliver’s Lucky Choice 1 secured fourth, delivering the final treble clear in 41.35 seconds.
