Scott Brash Wins Grand Prix in Oslo

Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos win Rikstoto Grand Prix

Of the forty seven riders contesting the Rikstoto Grand Prix in Oslo, it was only fourteen of them that made it into the jump-off by jumping clear in the first round.

It was Scott Brash from Peebleshire that made it through as the sole rider for Great Britain with Hello Sanctos, the bay gelding owned by Lady Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris. As a combination they have proved formidable having won Team Gold at the London Olympics Games last year followed by a Team Gold and Individual Bronze at the European Championships last month in Herning, Denmark.

They illustrated their brilliance once again this afternoon by putting in, what appeared to be, an effortless performance to take the title. The jump-off had seen some tremendous action with French Roger Yves Bost and Castle Forbes Cosma being the first combination back into the arena.  Having laid down the gauntlet with a clear in what appeared to be a fast time of 36.32seconds, many of the riders coming behind him went hell for leather trying to beat his time and secure a hefty share of the prize fund at stake.  This was achieved soon afterwards by Sweden’s Angelica Augustsson and Mic Mac du Tillard who stopped the clock at 34.08 seconds.

With Scott covering the ground without ever breaking rythym it was deceptive as to quite how fast he was going and how much ground Hello Sanctos was covering.  But stopping the clock at 34.06seconds with all fences standing was just enough to give him the edge and put him in first place.  With no competitor managing to better him or Angelica, they retained their placings with Harrie Smolders from the Netherlands and Emerald taking third place in a time of 34.44seconds.

The course builder was delighted with the results. – This is an excellent show with an excellent audience, great atmosphere and organization. But most of all it was fair to the horses with the perfect ground and a good course – and it was won by an Olympic medalist. I am happy, Uliano Vezzani stated.
