Nick Skelton is a Big Star
Monday 19 September 2011

Madrid played host not only to the European Championships but also a CSI3* international show which ran along side.
Warwickshire rider Nick Skelton who was competing in the European classes on Carlo, took another of his horses, Big Star for the CSI3* competitions. The eight year old bay stallion owned by Beverly Widdowson took second in the Grand Prix on Saturday. The combination showed their class and jumped a double clear in a jump off time of 36.30 seconds, just a second slower than first place Maikel van der Vleuten.
Also out in Madrid was 26 year old Scott Brash from Pebbles in Scotland who travelled out with the European Team as the fifth man. During the week Scott competed in the CSI3* show and rode both Intertoy Z a black twelve year old gelding owned by his father Stanley, and Bon Ami II a ten year old brown gelding owned by Elizabeth McTaggart. Both horses showed their scope winning a class each.
Scott and Bon Ami II took the win in the 1.45m class on the Saturday afternoon. Previously that day the pair had come second in another 1.45m and the same the Thursday before. The Sunday saw Scott ride his World Equestrian Games horse Intertoy Z, who also won a 1.45m class.
