British Showjumping Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE)

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) which has been hugely successful in developing and preparing talented young athletes (aged 16-19) saw some of the first cohort of twenty students celebrate the end of the six two-day camps at a champagne reception at Olympia, the London International Horse Show.

Having received training from some of Showjumping’s top coaches and experts in a range of disciplines including flatwork, jumping, athlete nutrition, mental preparation for competition, athlete fitness, equine physiology along with career and media planning the programme has proved an incredible success.   Haddon Training and British Showjumping first launched the AASE programme in February 2013 with the initial cohort of twenty riders, all of whom are due to finish their programme next month.  Gaining substantial interest in the programme and the opportunities it was able to offer talented young riders, the second programme was rolled out in October 2013 with an intake of twenty four riders.

To celebrate the achievements attained by the first cohort, all riders were invited to Olympia, The London International Horse Show to not only enjoy the show from a private viewing box but to also receive their Certificates of Achievement from Rob Hoekstra, World Class Showjumping Performance Manager.

The first group of students are due to finish their programme in February 2014.  To celebrate their completion of the training camps, Haddon Training invited all of the AASE students to Olympia on Wednesday 18th December.  They enjoyed a champagne reception and watched the evening performance from private boxes.

11 students from the first programme were able to join us at Olympia.  They received Certificates of Achievement from Rob Hoekstra, World Class Showjumping Performance Manager.

This year, eight of the twenty four  riders that competed in the World Class Programme U23 British Championship Final at Olympia were students on the AASE programme. Jess Dimmock, one of the AASE riders, came first while Jessica Mendoza came third and Emma O’Dwyer, fourth. This competition identifies the top young riders in Great Britain at the moment and for a third of the riders to be on the AASE programme highlights the importance of the programme for a young rider’s training and development.
