19 year old Yazmin Pinchen from West Sussex took 3rd place in the Sharjah 1.60m Grand Prix in the UAE over the weekend with her mother’s (Nancy) 10 year old chestnut stallion Van de Vivaldi.

Representing Great Britain as the sole rider at the event, Yazmin was also the youngest competitor contesting the technical 1.60m €51,000 Grand Prix FEI World Cup.  With twelve riders coming forward from a strong field to contest the jump off, Yazmin found herself up against two members of the Saudi Arabian London 2012 bronze medal winning team, a position that many would have found daunting in itself.

Unfazed by her opposition she put in a foot perfect clear, one of only three achieved in a time of 45.43seconds, just a fraction slower than bronze medallist Abduallah Al Sharbatly who cleared the course in a time of 45.83.  The winning position went to Ukranian rider Ferense Szentirmai with Corenso having produced the fastest of the three clears in a time of 48.15m.

Yazmin started competing on the international stage in 2007 when she won a Team Gold and Individual Silver medal representing Great Britain at the Children on Horses Championships in Istanbul.  Since then, Yazmin has competed on a number of Junior & Young Rider teams with 2012 seeing her start competing at senior international level.

To achieve such a strong placing with Vinny, whom she has produced since a relative novice, has been a tremendous success for Yazmin which she summed up in her comment afterwards by saying “He has just been brilliant today, I can’t tell you how great he has jumped.  To have come out here and been placed in such a strong class with Vinny, whom I trust and believe in so much as just been fantastic.   I’m here with two other horses, both of whom have been placed in classes as well and the experience has been one that I have learnt so much from”.
