Aintree International Equestrian Centre in Liverpool played host to the first of the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Rounds last weekend (Saturday 15th September 2012). Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.
The combinations starting the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.
The Second Round attracted 28 starters and from these, 15 combinations made it through to the jump off. In the jump off, 10 riders achieved an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places.
The overall winner of this Second Round was 48-year-old Ian Wynne from Llangollen, Clwyd. Ian secured his win and Championship Final place on board Don Douglas, a 12-year-old dark bay gelding owned by Ann Wolley Dod. Ian and Don Douglas were the penultimate combination to go in the jump off and they posted a time of 34.37 seconds over the eight fence course to seal the win.
Second place was secured by Norman Proffitt from Cannock, Staffordshire. Norman rode Valentino XIV, a 10-year-old dark brown gelding owned by Carron Nicol. Norman achieved his second clear in a time of 35.73 seconds to ensure that he finished in second place and had booked his spot in the Championship Final.
The combination finishing in third was Elaine Williams from Prescot, Merseyside and she secured her Championship Final place on board her own 15-year old dark bay gelding, Unicentro. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 36.77 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final, seven of which achieved a fantastic double clear.
