Lacey-Mae Russel seizes Victory in the STX-UK Pony British Novice Second Round at Felbridge Showground

Saturday 20th April, saw Felbridge Showground play host to the third STX-UK Pony British Novice Second Competition of 2024. It was fantastic to see so many riders and ponies take to the ring, not only to compete for the top spot, but to claim their valuable spot in the STX-UK Pony British Novice Championship Final and to ultimately vie for the Champions title.

Forty-five ponies set out to tackle the John Bedford’s 11-fence course in the first round, an impressive 22 of which took it all in their stride to jump the clear round needed to progress to the second round. As competitors entered the ring for the second time, the course proved to be a challenge, with the field being whittled down to nine for the jump off.

Energy levels were high, and the contest was embraced, as a remarkable seven riders crossed the finish line to claim their triple clear.

Three seconds separated first from fifth, but it was Lacey-Mae Russel and Kellie Ward’s Beezies Taz who proved too hard to beat. The established pairing sped round the course to stop the clock at 33.44 second, nearly one whole second faster than second place Alfie Bailey and Stambrook Belvedere, owned by Aniela Inceman, wh are no stranger to the podium and have had an impressive 2024 so far.

Our winners were present by series sponsor’s STX-UK, official importer for Stephex Horsetrucks in the UK. The Championship final will take place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August.
