Sammie Jo Qualifies for Equestrian Clearance.com Newcomers Final

Thursday 21 July 2011

Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre in Hampshire hosted an EquestrianClearance.com Newcomer second round this weekend which saw sixty two starters fight it out for the top two spots to gain Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualification. First to fifth place also pick up qualification to the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival which offers another chance at HOYS qualification.

Twenty two combinations made it round Matthew Hoskins course clear to jump in the second round which saw nine jump another clear to jump off. Drawn fourth to go in the jump off with no clears ahead of her was Surrey based Pippa Funnell. Riding Billy Studs six year old bay gelding Billy Balou Pippa jumped a careful round coming home clear in a time of 42.86 seconds. With fences falling all over the course this proved good enough to hold on to the win being the only treble clear.

Coming home in second place was Cornwall based Sammie Jo Coffin riding James Lukers’ seven year old bay gelding Zig Zag, jumping round in 42.81 seconds lowering just one pole for four faults. Having already qualified for HOYS in the Horse & Hound Foxhunter this combination can now add the EquestrianClearance.com Newcomers qualification to their tally.

Third place went to Gemma Plumley from Gwent partnering Johnsey Estates six year old grey gelding Kobie. Jumping round in 46.13 seconds they just had the second to last fence down for four faults.

Essex based Daniel Neilson was the quickest time of the day riding Celia Mason’s seven year old bay mare, Zavira. Being drawn second last to go Daniel knew even with the second fence down he still stood a chance of qualifying for HOYS but unfortunately the last fence fell as well leaving him with eight faults in a time of 40.32 seconds putting him in fourth place.

The final combination to qualify for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival was fifth placed Steven Franks. Steven from West Sussex was riding Lisa Torode’s six year old stallion Renoir Du Rock who also had two fences down for eight faults in a time of 42.72 seconds.

All the above combinations have qualified for the 2011 Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival which will take place from Sunday 28th August to Saturday 3rd September at the Stafford County Showground.

The 2011 Horse of the Year Show will take place between the 4th and 9th October at Birmingham’s NEC.
