British Showjumping lends support to the NHS Foundation Trust that cared for Tim Stockdale

British Showjumping is pleased to be announcing their support of an additional* charity for 2012 following the support, care and treatment that Olympian Tim Stockdale received during his time at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) in Oswestry.

Having sustained a multiple fracture to his neck in a fall last October, Tim was taken to the specialist Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries at Oswestry, where he couldn’t have been in better care. The Centre is a leading light in the research and care of spinal injuries and it was here that Tim spent eight weeks totally immobilized before entering into a rehabilitation programme.

Whilst part of an NHS Foundation Trust hospital, the Centre is a registered charity and heavily reliant on donations to continue the superb work they do in both researching spinal injuries and new treatments. In addition donations allow them to provide state of the art facilities for both patients and carers.

British Showjumping has set up an online donation page with Just Giving for those that would like to add their support. A link to the page can be found below. British Showjumping have already donated the sum of £500 as a result of the savings made from sending e-cards at Christmas rather than traditional cards through the mail.

Iain Graham, Chief Executive for British Showjumping said “Having spent time in the Spinal Injuries Centre and understanding the nature of their work we all felt that we would like to show our support of the Foundation Trust in a formal way. The tremendous results they have achieved across sporting related incidents, many of which have been riding related, has been phenomenal resulting in them being one of the leading Spinal Injuries Centres in the country.

“We sincerely trust that this is seen as a positive association and we hope that our alignment will make a difference both in terms of fundraising and public awareness. On behalf of everyone at British Showjumping I would also like to thank everyone concerned at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries for getting Tim back on his feet as quickly as they have”.
