Scottish junior riders fly the flag at the Equerry Bolesworth International Horse Show

SCOTTISH junior riders gave an excellent account of themselves at the Equerry Bolesworth International Horse Show with a win and a host of placings throughout the competition.

Shaunie Greig underlined why she is among British showjumping's most exciting prospects by producing a stunning performance to claim the 148cms Pony Grand Prix, sponsored by Carden Arms.

Designed by Mark McGowan, who predicted six combinations would make it through to the jump off in the International Arena, Shaunie was one of five combinations to make it through to the second round joined by Nicole Lockhead-Anderson, Faye Sutton and two rides for Claudia Moore.

Fellow Scot, Nicole and Gangnam Style II were the pathfiders and set the pace with an impressive round in 37.17 seconds, but Shaunie moved into top gear immediately aboard Casino Royale VIII, making some remarkable turns to clock an unbeatable 33.56 seconds.

Claudia finished in third and fourth places, respectively, with Elando van de Roshoeve and Shamrock du Gite.

A delighted Shaunie said: "It is such a lovely venue here, and I feel lucky to be able to ride here. He is an amazing pony that always tries his best, and I knew the jump-off course today would suit him."

The following day Shaunie finished runner up in the 148cms class held in the Castle Arena, posting a smooth double clear to finish behind the experienced Tixylix and Eleanor Hall Mcateer.

In the 128cm Championship, held in the International Arena on Saturday morning, Madelaine Archibald and My Little Sweetheart posted a good first round clear to finish in fourth place. The 128cm on Friday evening in the Castle Arena saw Fergal Holohan and Harri Potter finished seventh and Madelaine and My Little Sweetheart ninth.

In the 138cm Championships both Codie McGowan and Oakhurst In The Spotlight and Philippa Archibald and Stoney Burke enjoyed their experiences but with some poles falling, they just missed out on the awards.
