Scotland’s Sophie Scott is May’s NAF Shining Star

Sophie Scott, aged 15 from Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, has become showjumping’s latest NAF Shining Star after her development within her local Junior Academy was recognised by her Lead Coach.

A member of the Aberdeen Junior Academy, Sophie was nominated for the award by Lead Coach Sarah Hamilton who had the following to say about her nominee “Sophie shows a great deal of dedication with her horses and puts in many hours of flatwork training to help improve her jumping. She is very trainable and always listens and asks question to help her ensure that she has got a good understanding. Since joining the academy, Sophie has been working hard at the NAF 5* Star Performance Awards and she has already completed her 1* through to 3* and is working towards her 4*.”

Sophie has been a member with British Showjumping since December 2011 and was both shocked and excited to learn that she had been awarded the NAF Shining Star “I got involved with the Junior Academy because of the fantastic training opportunities available to me.” During her time with the academy, Sophie has progressed from jumping British Novice to contesting classes at 1.10m/Senior Newcomers height.

“For 2015, I have qualified for both the 95cm and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds and I am also hoping to contest the Bronze League Championship classes with the aim of competing at Horse of the Year Show.”

As part of her winner’s prize, Sophie will receive some NAF equine supplements to use alongside the products she currently uses which include Superflex for the maintenance of joints and Electro Salts which replace the essential mineral salts (electrolytes) which are lost during exercise when the horse sweats.

Griselda Handy, Brand Manager for NAF, commented “Sophie is a great example of a Shining Star. The time and effort Sophie has given her riding has resulted in her not only progressing to new levels but also gaining some super results.”

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
