Tilly Shaw wins NAF Shining Star Award!

Nine year old Tilly Shaw from Grantham, Lincolnshire is the latest young showjumper to receive the NAF Shining Star Award for February 2016. Tilly secured her nomination by proving herself to be a caring, supportive and diligent member of the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Academy.

Tilly, who turns ten years old in March, was nominated for the award by Selina Cawkwell, Lead Coach for the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Academy. Selina had the following to say about her nominee; “Tilly has been an active member of the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Junior Academy for over a year, during this time her confidence has grown immensely. She is always friendly and helpful to all other members and to me. She is a fantastic pupil, always keen to learn and encouraging to other members in her group. Her hard work has paid off as she has progressed from jumping 70cm a year ago to now having 2 ponies qualified for the Style and Performance Final at POYS and 3 ponies already qualified for Scope. She has also completed her 2* NAF award and is well on her way to achieving her 3*. A very deserving winner as she is a hardworking, talented and popular young lady.”

Beginning her riding career at the tender age of three, Tilly joined British Showjumping in February 2014 with her first Showjumping pony, Magic Monkey.  She has since gone from strength to strength and is now out competing three ponies, all of which she has qualified for Championships later this year.

Being part of the Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire Academy, Tilly has found the friendly and encouraging environment not only provides a fantastic training opportunity but it has also transformed her from a nervous young girl to the confident sportswomen she is today, which her mother, Jodie, attributes to the efforts of  Lead coach, Selina.

Unaware of her nomination and upon finding out she had become a NAF Shining Star, a stunned Tilly said ‘I’m so excited to win the NAF Shining Star, the first thing I wanted to do was run over to my ponies and tell them we had won’

Tilly will kindly receive some NAF equine products to use alongside the products and supplements that she currently uses which include Oestress for the support of hormone balance in mares and Muck Off for removing stubborn stable stains.

Melissa Newman, NAF Brand Manager, further commented “Tilly is extremely deserving of the Shining Star award, her encouragement of others and enthusiasm to develop her riding and being a keen and helpful spectator is very admirable. Tilly’s mature attitude and good sportsmanship are praiseworthy qualities and something that not only Tilly but the Academy she attends can be very proud of. Well done!”

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
