Nottinghamshire’s Jack Whitaker Dominates Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifiers at SouthView Equestrian Centre
Wednesday 20 January 2016
The Winter 148cm Pony Premier Shows kicked off at South View Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire over the weekend and the two Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifiers proved to be a key and popular part of the show.
Over the two days of competition, the qualifiers attracted a large field of sixty-three starters and with just three qualifying places available in each class, competition was fierce. Each starter was aiming to pick up a place in the prestigious Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Championship, which will be held during the Charles Stanley British Masters International Horse Show (1st - 3rd July 2016) and it was young showjumper Jack Whitaker who showed that he was going to be one to beat.
Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Saturday 16th January 2016
Each and every rider set out over Mark McGowan’s tracks with the aim of posting three clear rounds and ahead of the final jump off, just three combinations remained.
It was 14 year-old Jack Whitaker from Whatton, Nottinghamshire who set the standard for the remaining competitors after he clocked up the first treble clear on board his father Michael’s 12 year-old bay gelding Elando Van De Roshoeve. The pair flew round the course in 38.79 seconds and this time eventually gave Jack nearly two seconds in hand over his nearest rival.
Emma Crawford, aged 15, from Cupar, Fife delivered the only other treble clear in Saturday’s class and she did so on Moonlight Flight, a 19 year-old bay gelding owned by Elizabeth Archdeacon. They secured their last clear round in 40.71 seconds.
Third place was taken by 15 year-old Jodie Hall Mcateer from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire and she rode her mother Mandy’s 17 year-old chestnut mare, Lea Du Genier. A fence both early and late on in the jump off saw this combination finish on a total of 8 faults in 40.64 seconds.
Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Sunday 17th January 2016
Buoyed by their win from the previous day, Jack Whitaker and Elando Van De Roshoeve set out over the final jump off course determined to achieve another treble clear and they duly did. They continued their run of good form and in doing so, secured this treble clear in an exceptionally fast time of 40.12 seconds, beating the other three combinations competing in the final phase of the class.
Jack’s closest rival was 15 year-old Robert Murphy who was competing on Hans Jacobsen’s 10 year-old brown mare Rainbows Mocha. This pair produced three immaculate rounds to finish with zero faults in 46.23 seconds.
Antonia Platt, aged 14, from Chelmsford, Essex took third place on Carnhill Luna, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Rosalind Platt. Antonia and Carnhill Luna were unlucky to roll a pole at the final fence and this saw them finish on 4 faults in 47.04 seconds.
The next two Charles Stanley JA Classic Qualifiers will be held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 30th & 31st January 2016.
