Team GBR Squad for the Dublin FEI Furusiyya 5* Nations Cup Announced

Rob Hoekstra, the World Class Showjumping Performance Manager has announced his squad of five that will be travelling to Dublin, Ireland for the eighth leg of the CSIO 5* Furusiyya Nations Cup competitions. This will be the last of four competitions within the series where Great Britain will be competing for crucial league points with the aim of assuring themselves a place in the final in addition to inclusion in next year’s series.

The 5* International Show commences on Wednesday 6th August 2014 and finishes on Sunday 10th August 2014 with the Nations Cup taking place on Friday 08th August at 15:00 hrs. The Grand Prix will then take place on Sunday 10th August 2014 at 15:00 hrs.

The squad selected is as follows:

Scott Brash MBE, the current World No.1 from Peebleshire with Hello Sanctos, the 14 year-old bay gelding owned by Lady Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris with whom he won Team Gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games followed by a 2013 European Championship Team Gold and Individual Bronze medal.

Joe Clee, who is based in Belgium and Utamaro d’Ecaussines a 10 year old bay stallion owned by Ludwig Criel. This combination achieved a double clear Grand Prix win at the CSI3* in Lummen earlier on this year and they also posted strong performances as part of the Teams that competed in the 5* Nations Cup competitions at La Baule, Rotterdam and Falsterbo. The combination secured a double clear whilst contesting the Nations Cup in Rotterdam.

Ben Maher MBE, the World No.2 and London 2012 Team Gold Medallist from Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire with the 12 year-old grey mare Cella owned by Jane F Clark. It was with Cella that Ben won both a Team Gold and Individual Silver at the European Championships last year in Herning, Denmark. They also top the FEI World Ranking List for Horse/Rider Combination for Jumping.

Spencer Roe, a World Class Development Programme rider, from Lincoln with his mother Sally’s 11 year-old bay gelding Wonder Why with whom he finished Team 4th in the Young Rider European Championships last summer. Spencer and Wonder Why were part of the British team that won the CSIO 5* Furusiyya Nations Cup competition at St. Gallen, Switzerland and they were also part of the Teams that competed in the 5* Nations Cup competitions at Rotterdam and Falsterbo.

Guy Williams, from Canterbury, Kent with Zaire, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Caroline Phillips. A member of the Rotterdam team in June they also appeared on the winning team at St. Gallen where they jumped clear in the first round.
