Rachael Connor Claims Second Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round Win at the Scottish Summer Extravaganza Show

Under grey skies, Rachael Connor claim her second Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round win, this time riding her own Fantastic at the Scottish Summer Extravaganza Show held at the Royal Highland Show Ground in Clackmannanshire.
Despite the drizzle, seventy-two determined competitors began the battle to claim one of the two direct qualification spots up for grabs for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final which will be held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show in October. The first two rounds saw a lot of action as every competitor had their sights set on the top of the leader board, until just thirteen talented combinations were left to begin the final jump off.
With a late draw, Rachael from Rossendale, Lancashire watched all preceding combinations cross the finish line with faults and used this to her advantage. Riding her own 6 year-old bay mare, Fantastic, Rachael produced an accurate and balanced performance to secure top spot with the only treble clear of the competition in 46.39 seconds.
Second place went to Annabel Shields from Crook, Durham riding Robert Shields’ 7 year-old grey gelding, My Casall. Picking up an unfortunate four faults at the first fence on the course, this pair posted a lightning fast round to cross the finish line in 39.47 seconds.
With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show, the riders and horses that finished in third to fifth missed out on Championship qualification this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.

The Horse of the Year Show 2016 will take place from the 5th – 9th October at Birmingham’s NEC. The British Showjumping National Championships 2016 will take place during the 9th – 14th August at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
