Hannah Barker wins HOYS 128cms Qualifier at South View
Wednesday 22 June 2016
11 year-old Hannah Barker from Thornton Le Beans, North Yorkshire posted a treble clear on My Little Sweetheart to win the HOYS 128cm at South View Pony Premier, guaranteeing her a place at HOYS 128cm Championship Final which will be held at Horse of the Year Show in October.
Thirty-seven riders tackled round one of the competition, but only seven produced initial clears with six reaching the final jump-off. Hannah, drawn first, pushed any pressure aside to storm home clear on the 18-year-old Irish-bred mare My Little Sweetheart.
Natasha Hamilton aged 11 years old from Milltimber, Aberdeenshire was the only other rider to provide three clear rounds for second on the 17-year-old gelding Koda – reigning HOYS 128cm champion with previous rider Lily Grimwade.
12 year-old Iwan Carpenter from Holywell, Clwyd took third on the 21-year-old Brookhall Glimpse, but as this pair had already qualified at Sparsholt, the third qualifying place passed down to fourth-placed Alena Hughes and Mathews Girl. This 22-year-old mare has a tremendous record at HOYS; she finished eighth with Alena last year and has won the title three times – 2013 with Sienna Charles, 2012 with Scarlett Charles and 2008 with Millie Allen.
