Graham Babes Grabs His Place in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship

Graham Babes from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire made a worthwhile trip to the Dumfries & Lockerbie Show on Saturday as he returned home with a ticket to the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship, which will take place during Horse of the Year Show this October.

Each of the thirty-seven combinations started out over the George Blackie designed track with the hope of securing one of the three sought-after direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final.

In a five strong jump off, all the combinations picked up 4 faults and this meant that the allocation of the three qualifying tickets came down to the times clocked up.

Graham Babes produced the fastest 4 fault round on board Patricia Fraser’s 7 year-old grey mare Calvade VD Pikkerie Z. Their time of 44.28 seconds saw them eventually finish with a 2.5 second advantage over their nearest rivals.

Second place was awarded to Lucy Guild from Forfar, Angus with Hugana vant Heike, an 8 year-old dark brown mare owned by Fiona Good. This combination completed the course with 4 faults in 46.79 seconds.

The third and final qualifying place was picked up by Jackson Reed Stephenson from Lower Dunsforth, York on his own 7 year-old bay gelding Don Karlos. Their 4 fault round was achieved in 49.09 seconds.
