Emma Woods from Stirlingshire is May’s NAF Shining Star
Wednesday 15 May 2019
Fifteen year-old Emma Woods from Falkirk, Stirlingshire has been awarded the NAF Shining Star award for May after showing great progression to Central Scotland Academy co-ordinator Lorraine Kennedy and lead coach Aileen Craig.
Lorraine had the following to say about Emma “Emma has been attending the Central Scotland Academy for several years now. She has shown a huge amount of commitment and dedication even when times have been not been straightforward. The effort that Emma has put in over the years is now being rewarded with tremendous results with two ponies whom she has brought on herself; Kinx Unique Amethyst (also known as Hazel) had very little British Showjumping experience and Harradene Jade (known as Hattie) was a much younger and less experienced when she took on the rides. Both ponies competed at The Royal Highland Show last year and Emma has qualified again for this year’s show in the 148cm and JC/JD Finals.”
Aileen added “Emma is just a pleasure to coach. She is interactive with questions and discussions about her plans and what she would like to develop and achieve. I have watched her mature over the years at the academy into a lovely rider and a focussed competitor. I hope she does well in her final year on ponies and I will look forward to watching her progress into senior competition.”
After finding out she was the winner of May’s NAF Shining Star, Emma said “I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award! It’s a great feeling to look back and realise how far I have progressed in the last eight years of being an academy member. Everything that I have learnt in my lessons and taken home to practice has really paid off. I have met some friends for life through the academy and it’s really fun to train and learn with them before going on to compete on Academy Teams with them. I am aiming to make the Debut Teams at the Home Pony shows this summer and to be placed at the British Showjumping National Championships – that would end my pony career on a high!”
Lisa Field from NAF commented “We loved hearing all about Emma and how her hard work and commitment has helped her achieve such great results with her ponies. It must be a real pleasure to teach someone so willing to learn. Congratulations Emma, we wish you all the best for 2019!”
Emma will now receive a number of NAF Equine products to use alongside the products that she is already using including the Himalayan Salt Lick and Silky Mane and Tail D-Tangler.
The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more.
