Will Edwards is heading to Mexico

14 year-old Will Edwards from Ellesmere, Shropshire has qualified to compete at the FEI Children on Horses World Championships to be held in Valle de Bravo (Mexico) in January 2015. Will has been selected due to his performances at FEI Children on Horses events and will be competing alongside sixteen of the world’s best junior riders.

Will’s mother Amanda commented “It’s a great end to a great year, Will has had a fantastic two years of Children on Horses and it is a fantastic opportunity for him and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

The competition is unusual in format in respect of the fact that the host nation riders have to provide horses for the competition in its entirety. With each of the home riders bringing two horses to the Final, a draw takes place to identify which of the two horses the owner is to ride, once the home nation draw has taken place, a second draw is undertaken to identify which horse the remaining riders will be allocated.

The draw takes place on Monday 26th January after the horse inspection with the first warm-up competition taking place on the 27th.  The first qualifying competition takes place on the 28th January with the second competition taking place the next day followed by a rest day before the Final on the 31st January.

Di Lampard, Co-Selector and Chef d’Equipe for British Showjumping commented “We are highly delighted that Will has both qualified and accepted his place at the Championships in Mexico. Our youth riders have proved time and time again the tremendous talent Great Britain has at this level and Will is very much a true testament of this.  I speak on behalf of both myself and British Showjumping when I say that we wish him all the very best and to make most of the invaluable experience he will gain from it”.
