Sporting Excellence Study Programme 2018 Launch

Monday 26 March 2018

Haddon Training Ltd, in conjunction with British Showjumping, are proud to offer the brand new Sporting Excellence Study Programme (formally AASE).

This programme is designed to give young people, aged 16-19, the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications as well as gain invaluable coaching, mentoring and work experience in a relevant and inspiring environment. The learner will benefit from a comprehensive training and support programme delivered by Showjumping’s top coaches and experts.

As part of the Sporting Excellence Study Programme, which will last for a minimum of 1 year, 23 learners will take part in 4 camps and achieve two nationally recognised qualifications:

  • Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Certificate in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance
  • BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Sports Performance.

The learners will develop a variety of core skills and build an understanding across a full breadth of sporting topics such as:

  • Technical and tactical skills for high performance sport
  • Rider fitness and physiotherapy
  • Athlete nutrition
  • Sports psychology
  • Career and financial planning
  • Lifestyle management
  • Media and communications

The learners will also develop the skills and knowledge that’s needed to have as elite athlete. Along with their trainer coach, the learner will complete an analysis of where they are now, where they want to be and how they will get there in relation to a wide variety of areas including:

  • Your technical riding skills
  • Your tactical jumping skills
  • Your fitness and awareness of injury risk
  • You mental strength
  • Your awareness of health and safety
  • Planning your career as an athlete

The Sporting Excellence Study Programme (SESP) is the instrumental part of the grassroots training in the equine industry for producing the next top riders across all disciplines; Showjumping, Dressage, Eventing, Para-Dressage and Racing and is the first step into the talent path way.

The brand new SESP programme follows on from the former Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). This programme was hugely successful in developing and preparing talented young athletes (age 16-19) who have a real chance of excelling in their sport and competing on the international stage. Many previous students have gone on to compete for Great Britain internationally both at Youth and Senior Level.

The new SESP programme offers the same level of training and development as the AASE programme, where selected talented riders are given the chance to improve their skills whilst learning how to manage all aspects of life as a professional in showjumping. Riders will have the chance to continue their education in a relevant and inspiring environment, and benefit from training with showjumping’s top coaches.

Professional experts are invited to our SESP camps to deliver workshops to the riders. For this launch we have:

  • Andrew Saywell, an accredited coach with the British Showjumping
  • and, three-time Olympian, Heike Holstein.

With more experts invited through-out the year.
