Riders battle it out for their HOYS Wild Card

For many riders, the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show, which takes place 8th – 13th August, is one of their last chances to qualify for Horse of the Year Show and this year there are four HOYS Wild Cards up for grabs.

The allocation of Wild Cards will be decided on the Sunday afternoon after the British Showjumping Business Partnership International Stairway Final. The Wild Cards will be awarded to the following:

  • One to the winner of the International Stairway League
  • One to the winner of the International Stairway Final (who will also receive the title of British Showjumping National Champion)
  • One to the winner of the National Championship Show League which will run across the show culminating with the British Showjumping Business Partnership International Stairway Final on Sunday.
  • New for this year, the additional Wildcard will be awarded to the highest placed Young Rider, between 18 and 25 years of age, within the top 10 of the National Championship Show League.

For 2017, due to the Young Riders Europeans running the same dates as the British Showjumping National Championships, a Wildcard will also be offered to the highest placed individual medallist, between 18 and 21 years of age, at the Young Riders Europeans.

The HOYS Wild Card Series has three heats at the six day show; leg one begins on the Friday 11th and leg two follows on the next day with fences at a maximum height of 1.45m. For the culminating final on Sunday 13th, the fences will be a maximum height of 1.50m, which promises edge of your seat action and a great way to celebrate the final day of the six day show. The recipients of the three Wild Cards will then automatically be qualified for the International Competitions at Horse of the Year Show 2017 (4th – 8th October) where the qualified rider will be entitled to enter three horses plus one for the Puissance.

There are 37 entries in the HOYS Wild Card Series this year, many of whom are bringing along two rides: Matt Sampson is bringing Ebolensky and Jaguar Vd Berhoeve, Alfie Bradstock is bringing KBIS Caicos and Benedictus, Helen Tredwell is competing with Sebastian VII and Larksong, Tim Stockdale has two rides, Miss Fritz and Tornado De Monts, and Julie Andrews is entered with Wilando B and Ayrton IV to name just a few.

With free spectator entry, great shopping, children’s activities including a bouncy castle, catering facilities along with Friday and Saturday evening entertainment, it is not only the competitors who are guaranteed a fabulous day out. Parking £5 per car. A great family event for the summer holidays! Find out more http://www.bsnationalchampionships.com/  or call 02476 858205.
