Rebecca Marsh lands the SEIB Winter Novice Championship

From twenty-three talented combinations, a thrilled Rebecca Marsh raced to the finish line to land the 2017 SEIB Winter Novice Championship at the Longines Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in West Sussex.

Qualifying for the prestigious SEIB Winter Novice Championship began last October and continued all the way through to March of this year. Eleven qualifiers were held at venues all over the country and horses and riders travelled the length and breadth of the country to secure a place in the Championship. There was also a last qualifier held at Hickstead on Tuesday.

Rebecca, who is based in Warrington, Cheshire took victory on board Predator Ridge, a 10 year-old bay mare owned by Mary Marsh. The pair secured their qualification place last October at Northcote Stud and their double clear form continued into the Championship. Rebecca and Predator Ridge used every tight line to their advantage to net a double clear in just 42.32 seconds from halfway through the jump off draw. This was to prove unbeatable and they won with a 1.35 second lead.

Alister Hippisley-Gatherum from St Andrews, Fife was Rebecca’s nearest rival and he took the runners up prize on his own 6 year-old bay gelding G-Star. This combination delivered their double clear in 43.67 seconds.

Third place went to Nicole Pavitt from Crawley, West Sussex and she rode Diane Mindel’s 6 year-old grey gelding Newtonhill Monaco to a double clear in 43.98 seconds.
