John Whitaker & Argento pipped to the post in the CSI 4* Royal Windsor Grand Prix

The Grand Prix for the Kingdom of Bahrain Trophy at Royal Windsor this afternoon saw top class competition played out infront of capacity crowds enjoying the best of the weather.
With fourteen clears in the first round it was almost half the starting field that then came forward for the jump off; and what a jump-off it proved to be. Four Brits made it through in the form of John Whitaker with his own and wife Clare’s Argento, Tim Stockdale with Marjorie & Clarke Glasgow’s mare Fleur de L’Aube, Laura Renwick with her own and husband John’s gelding Bintang and young Yazmin Pinchen with her mother Nancy’s chestnut stallion Van de Vivaldi.
Joining the quartet of Brits was an incredibly strong field with riders such as Billy Twomey for Ireland, Peder Fredricson for Sweden and both Laura Kraut and Kent Farrington for the USA. It was always going to be a title that the riders would fight for however hardly anyone could of imagined to what scale.
With all riders trying to get ahead on the clock, some of the turns and forward going pace had spectators on the edge of the seats straining to watch the clock at the same time. However, as a result some errors were made and it was ten of the fourteen that picked up penalties as a result.
Only four of the combinations managed to produce another clear and it was Kent Farrington and Creedence who took the eventual lead with their clear in a time of 38.45 seconds. Just behind them was John Whitaker and Argento who broke the finish line in 39.52 seconds whilst Italy’s Piergiorgio Bucci and Casallo Z finished 3rd in 40.08 seconds with 4th place going to Tiffany Foster for Canada in a time of 41.37seconds.
Tim Stockdale picked up 4 penalties to finish in 7th place whilst Laura Renwick accrued 8 penalties to finish in 9th in the second fastest time of the competition of 39.46 seconds. Yazmin Pinchen also incurred an unlucky 8 penalty score in the jump off to finish in 13th on with a slower time than Laura’s of 43.20 seconds.
Earlier in the day we saw Robert Smith on Cimano E, owned by Rebecca Ravilious, finish the highest Brit in the Palm Accumulator with a maximum score of 65 points in a time of 42.38 seconds. It was Adeline Hecart for France that took 1st place by being just 1/100’th of a second faster with Question D’Orval. Yazmin Pinchen finished 5th, again on maximum points in a time of 43.57 on Con Chilli.
