Guy Williams wins Lummen CSI 3* Grand Prix, Holly Gillott close 2nd
Sunday 12 April 2015
The Lummen CSI3* Grand Prix this afternoon saw an incredibly hard fought jump off for the €30,000 at stake. With a dozen combinations going clear in the first round it was a further eight that than produced another clear with less than two seconds seperating the top six places.
For Great Britain the class was a resounding success as Brits Guy Williams and Holly Gillott not only secured the top two places respectively but were also the only two that managed to break the 37 second time barrier.
It was Guy who took the honours with Zaire, an 11 year-old bay gelding owned by Caroline Phillips. His double clear in a time of 36.60 seconds was just enough to relegate Holly Gillott into 2nd place with Dougie Douglas, the 10 year-old Liver Chestnut gelding which she jointly owns with Graham Smith. Having stopped the clock just a fraction of a second slower than Guy at 36.85 seconds they were still almost a second faster than Belgium rider Karel Cox with Gentleman who took 3rd place. 4th place was shared when both New Zealand rider Bruce Goodwin and Cayenne 175 along with Frank Schuttert and Winchester for the Netherlands broke the time line at 37.75 seconds.
The CSI1* show running alongside the CSI3* at Lummen also saw a GB victory when William Rekert jumped the fastest of seven double clears with Flair van Overis Z.
